The bird migration forecast since 15th of December 2009 for the German airspace reads: In Germany it is to expect with regional bird migration in a wide range. Mainly nordic geese, ducks and cranes stay in the area. Moderate bird migration takes place in the east and northwest of Germany, on the coasts from North and Baltic Sea as well as in the lowlands of the rivers Elbe, Weser and Donau. Current weather with sudden frost and snowfall will lead to increase bird migration within Germany. A translocation in bird migration, especially from nordic geese, in a westward direction (wadden sea and lowlands of Rhine) is probable. These migrations reach flight altitudes of up to 6000 ft (GND) – remain however usually clear below it. They take place by day, strengthened in the twilight phases.
